Joshua Elder White (1774-1820) was a medical doctor. He moved to Georgia prior to 1801 and began his practice in Waynesboro. He moved to Savannah in 1804 and was one of the founders of the Georgia Medical Society in 1806. He wrote several articles on topography and medical subjects which were published in The Medical Repository (New York), 1804-1807. In 1804 doctors of Savannah, Georgia petitioned the Georgia Legislature to grant them a charter for a medical society. The charter was granted December 12, 1804 for the Georgia Medical Society. This date makes the Georgia Medical Society the second oldest active city medical society in the United States.
